The National are back with their first album in four years, First Two Pages of Frankenstein, and it’s already looking like a gem (featuring two Phoebe Bridgers collabs, as well as appearances by Sufjan Stevens and Taylor Swift). Naturally, they’re celebrating by gearing up for a world tour that begins this May. The veteran rock band will hit a number of cities across the U.S. before heading overseas to Europe in the fall. Bartees Strange, Soccer Mommy, and the Beths are set to support. For the Madison Square Garden show, the band will welcome special guest Patti Smith. Snail Mail is setting out on a spring tour, following Valentine’s Fest
This week, indie-rock favorite Snail Mail announced a U.S. tour that goes throughout April and May and features support from Water From Your Eyes and Dazy. The tour follows the band’s upcoming special five-day event, Valentine’s Fest, that Snail Mail brainchild Lindsey Jordan is throwing in Baltimore at the venue she came up playing at, Ottobar. While Valentine’s Fest is sold out, you can snag tickets to the upcoming tour when it goes on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. local time — that way you don’t miss another opportunity to tear up at her performing 2021’s Valentine again. —Sadie Bell
Yaeji is heading out in support of new album
“Make it rain, girl:” Yaeji is going on tour. The NYC-based-Seoul-born electronic artist just announced her new album, With A Hammer, is due out April 7, and she’s setting out across North America in support of it this April and May, immediately following the release. With new dreamy electro-pop tracks on the way, as well as her slate of very cool, beloved songs off her first two EPs and 2020’s WHAT WE DREW, she’s sure to put on a good show and get you dancing. —Sadie Bell
Mastodon, Gojira, and Lorna Shore are bringing metal to the masses this spring/summer
Grammy-winning heavy metal titans Mastodon are set to headline the Mega-Monsters Tour in North America this spring/summer. They’re joined by French progressive-metal band Gojira, along with deathcore’s most exciting new act, Lorna Shore. Kicking off April 18 in Portland, OR, the Mega-Monsters Tour will hit 35 cities across the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up in Denver, CO on September 2, making it sure to be one of the most epic metal experiences this year. Kendrick Lamar, Lizzo, and ODESZA to headline NYC’s resident festival Governors Ball
In NYC, summer officially begins over Governors Ball weekend — and this year it’s back from June 9-11. This week, the music festival announced its lineup, continuing to lean into the pop- and hip-hop-heavy programming it’s gone for in the past few years, seeing Kendrick Lamar, Lizzo, and ODESZA as headliners, and acts like HAIM, Lil Nas X, PinkPantheress, Rina Sawayama, and more filling out the bill. This year, the festival is moving to a new location — heading to Flushing Meadows Corona Park after spending the past couple of years in Citi Field and on Randall’s Island prior to that. Flogging Molly’s Salty Dog Cruise sets sail this November with a legendary punk lineup
Setting sail on November 8, Celtic-punks Flogging Molly will welcome fans aboard the Norwegian Pearl for six days of rowdy punk-rock on the high seas from Miami to Belize and Mexico. Joining the band is a stellar lineup of acts including Pennywise, the Interrupters (for the initial Miami send-off), Gorilla Biscuits, the Vandals, the Bronx, and Laura Jane Grace, among others. And Flogging Molly’s Salty Dog Cruise is not just a music experience. It also boasts on-site tattoo artists, an open bar, as well as several artist-led activities including flip cup, casino tournaments, and even belly flop contests. What’s more? The Salty Dog Cruise will also feature a full-blown halfpipe featuring sets from pro skaters Matt Hensley, Christian Hosoi, and Jason Adams. The Just Like Heaven lineup is a 2000s indie fan’s dream come true
The indie/electro nostalgia festival Just Like Heaven is back this year, going down on May 13 in Pasadena at Brookside At The Rose Bowl. It may only be the event’s third iteration (having launched in 2019 and returning only last year), but this year looks better than ever, with Yeah Yeah Yeahs toplining the bill, MGMT playing their acclaimed album Oracular Spectacular in full, and acts like M83, STRFKR, Azaelia Banks, and more playing. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PST, but you can sign up for easy access now. —Sadie Bell
Belltown Bloom is Seattle’s most exciting music festival for diverse and femme talent
Returning for its third year at the iconic music venue The Crocodile in the heart of Seattle’s historic downtown is none other than Belltown Bloom, a music festival with a mission to “spotlight regional talent” and “celebrate diversity and inclusion.” From May 5-6, Belltown Bloom will welcome headliners L7 and Russian protest punk collective Pussy Riot — as well as Zella Day, and Philly punks, Mannequin Pussy. Additionally, the fest will host 25+ acts that are making waves in the Pacific Northwest, including La Fonda (who actually organized the fest) and Thunderpussy.
