Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise terrified everyone on ‘IT: Chapter Two’ set
It’s no secret that Bill Skarsgård did an excellent job portraying pop culture’s most terrifying clown, Pennywise. However, apparently Skarsgård did such a good job, he made all of the rest of the actors not want to show up to the set of IT: Chapter Two.
On Good Morning America, James McAvoy, who is playing Bill in the IT sequel, opened up about how he felt about Skarsgård’s portrayal of the character.
“He’s amazing,” McAvoy The guy who plays the clown is terrifying. He’s a lovely guy, and yet he really freaked me out.I remember standing there with the rest of the cast, all these adults — and we’d all done weird, freaky stuff. And we are all looking at each other going, ‘I don’t like being here. I don’t like being an actor today.’ He really did, he really freaked me out. I never liked clowns as a kid.”
Following his IT recap, Mcavoy continues to explain his unfortunate fear of clowns.
“There’s something tragic about them. Maybe they’ve all run away to join the circus. What you running away from, Mr. Clown? What have you left behind? Is it like bodies in a trunk?”

Recently, Warner Bros. released a spoiler-free synopsis of the film that hints at a spooky return to Derry, Maine.
“Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, IT: Chapter Two brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.”
IT: Chapter Two, what we know so far:
IT: Chapter Two, set to be directed by Andy Muschietti, will see the adult version of the Losers’ Club return to Derry, Maine, 27 years later to face Pennywise once again.
The cast includes Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough and Bill Hader as Richie Tozier. Additionally, James Ransone will play Eddie Kaspbrak, Jay Ryan will play Ben Hanscom, Andy Bean will play Stan Uris and Isaiah Mustafa will play Mike Hanlon.
While the film will focus on the adult version of the club, that doesn’t mean the kids from the first film won’t make an appearance. As previously reported, the kids from the first film will appear in flashbacks during the sequel.
It was also reported that Chapter Two will see the adults of the Loser’s Club tackling the strange ritual that involves the group biting each other’s tongues and laughing. Writer Gary Dauberman spilled the beans to CinemaBlend, saying:
“The Ritual of Chüd is challenging,” he says, “but it’s such an important component to the book that we had to address it.” Dauberman credits the creative bond between production members in overcoming the “difficult to balance” passage.
IT: Chapter Two comes to theaters September 6.
