Is a ‘Black Panther’ sequel coming sooner than you think?

Less than a year after the release of the first Black Panther, a sequel could hit the big screen sooner than we think. While many of us aren’t surprised that the blockbuster is expected to release a Part Two, production could start as early as 2019.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the original film’s director, Ryan Coogler has signed on to write and direct its sequel.

Sources told the Hollywood Reporter that production should start in either 2019 or 2020. However, it is expected that Coogler will start to write the sequel within the next year.

Marvel had supposedly confirmed the sequel back in March. While he wouldn’t reveal any spoilers, Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige said that a sequel was “absolutely” going to happen in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two,” Feige said of the sequel. “There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.”

Now that the beloved director is back on the job, it’s hard to control our excitement.

Coogler is also an executive director on Lebron James’ Space Jam sequel and Creed II.

Black Panther quickly became one of the highest grossing superhero movies of all time. The film made over $1.3 billion worldwide.
