blink-182 get a festive spin with pop-punk Christmas carol cover

YouTube icons Rhett & Link, Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, performed a Christmas collaboration on their show Good Mythical Morning over the weekend. They gave a classic blink-182 track a new meaning with their holiday-themed lyrics.

Rhett & Link quit their engineer careers soon after college to focus on their future at YouTube. Good Mythical Morning had 5.3 billion views and over 16 million subscribers as of June 2019.

Starting in 2012, the show is uploaded to YouTube every weekday at 6 a.m. EST. It is now followed by their after-show Good Mythical More on a separate channel.

On Saturday, the duo went on Let’s Talk About That, the show about the show on Good Mythical Morning’s channel hosted by their producer Stevie Wynne Levine.

After discussing foods, Rhett & Link along with Levine made homemade Christmas decorations out of an at-home snake cage, sand and tinsel.

Towards the end, Levine brings up Thursday’s episode of Good Mythical Morning, where Rhett & Link did the Christmas carol pop-star mashup challenge with Kelly Rowland.

The duo had two miniature Christmas trees on their desk. One contained old ornaments with pop artists’ names written on paper attached to each one. The other was covered in miniature gifts containing the name of a Christmas carol inside.

Whoever chose to go first, in this case it was Rhett, picked a name from the artist tree before picking a package from the other tree to reveal a surprise carol. The person then has to give the song a rendition in the style of the artist they picked.

Among the artists used were Lizzo, Destiny’s Child, Taylor Swift and more.

On Let’s Talk About That, Levine pulled out one last ornament, with the piece of paper reading blink-182 and a miniature gift box with the words “Up On The Housetop.”

Rhett & Link, along with Levine, took the stage decked out in beanies, flannels, and a backwards cap to sing “Up On The Housetop” to the tune of blink-182’s “All The Small Things.” Levine handled most of the singing with the YouTube duo jumping in to assist with the chorus.
