See Gerard Way perform “First Date” with blink-182 in a resurfaced video
Some tours are so legendary, they can never be forgotten. This fact holds true for My Chemical Romance and blink-182‘s 2011 Honda Civic Tour which still remains some of the most memorable gigs for many fans.
Now, a video from the tour has resurfaced and is making rounds online. During the 2011 run, Gerard Way joined blink-182 onstage for an iconic performance of “First Date.”

The 2011 Honda Civic Tour was right in the middle of two iconic eras for My Chemical Romance and blink-182. MCR were celebrating their Danger Days release while blink-182 put on Neighborhoods later that month.
The resurfaced video is from the Honda Civic Tour’s stop in Michigan on Sept. 11, 2011. According to original reports, Tom DeLonge was struggling with an illness and asked Way to help out with vocals during blink-182’s set.
As if we weren’t already struggling with the loss of live gigs in 2020, this resurfaced video is truly reminding us of how much we miss live music. During the performance, Way took over most of DeLonge’s vocal parts while sporting his iconic Danger Days red hair and jacket.

Despite fans not getting the full DeLonge experience, the inclusion of Way was truly the MCR blink-182 collaboration of our dreams. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time blink-182 and Way take the stage together.
Along with Way, Matt Johnson of Matt and Kim, who opened the tour, sang DeLonge’s parts on “Always,” off of blink-182’s 2003 self-titled LP.
According to setlist.fm, blink-182’s setlist for the Honda Civic Tour included classics such as “I Miss You,” “What’s My Age Again?,” “Josie” and “All The Small Things.” They opened up their set with “Feeling This” and closed with a 4-song encore and “Family Reunion.”
As for MCR, they had a stacked setlist that fans today will be envious of. Their 11-song performance included “Na Na Na,” “Helena,” “Teenagers,” and, of course, “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” to close out their set.
