Bring Me The Horizon and YUNGBLUD first teased their collaboration back in July. It all started on July 25 when YUNGBLUD tweeted Oli Sykes and Jordan Fish. The tweet seemingly hinted that a collaboration between the two British artists was in the works.

Then, back in August, BMTH confirmed that a collaboration with YUNGBLUD is actually happening. During an interview with Jack Saunders for MTV Rocks Chart, Sykes cryptically confirmed the news after being asked about the rumors.

“Yeah we’ve been scheming, we’ve got something coming,” Sykes said.

During the interview, we learned that the new collab is part of BMTH’s forthcoming releases. Bring Me The Horizon are currently working on four different EPs that will be unveiled over the next year. Each release will fall under the album name Post Human. Both “Parasite Eve” and 2019’s “Ludens” will be on the first EP.

Over the past week, both Bring Me The Horizon and YUNGBLUD have been further teasing the collaboration to fans. On Aug. 27, BMTH posted the first photo of Sykes.

Following this, both Bring Me The Horizon and YUNGBLUD shared even more photos over the weekend. By the looks of it, both artists seem to be having a bloody good time working together.

“YOU MONSTERS ARE PEOPLE,” Bring Me The Horizon tweet.

Finally, on Sept. 1, BMTH and YUNGBLUD confirmed that “Obey” is arriving on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Now, after much anticipation, the new single is finally here. “Obey” premiered worldwide on BBC Radio 1 with Annie Mac.

During the premiere interview, YUNGBLUD and Sykes revealed how the collaboration came to be and what “Obey” is all about.

“I think I was waiting for that phone call my entire life,” YUNGBLUD says. “Bring Me The Horizon was such a massive part of my soul as an artist.”

Sykes and Fish spent about two days working on the song and it was half complete before they decided to send it through to YUNGBLUD. YUNGBLUD shares that he said “yes” to the collaboration very quickly.

Amidst the ongoing protests and demand for justice, Sykes says that “Obey” is reflective of what’s going on in the world right now.

“This year, if its taught us anything, if you believe in something, you need to stand up for it,” Sykes shares. “It’s not enough to believe and just quietly support it. You have to align yourself with what you believe in. This song is all about that. The conversation is open now where people aren’t taking the crap that they used to take with inequality and climate change.”

Stream “Obey” below and look out for the single’s video later on Wednesday.

UPDATE: SEPT. 2, 2:15 P.M. EST

Shortly following the premiere of “Obey” on Wednesday, BMTH and YUNGBLUD dropped a music video for the new single.

In the video, Sykes and YUNGBLUD are at the controls of two skyscraper-sized robots. As they continue to dominate over the city below them while showing off their dance moves, the robots eventually cross paths with each other.

The tension builds and they soon begin battling it out as they tower over Earth’s citizens. The video’s ending, however, might not be what you’d expect.
