Cannibal Corpse find replacement guitarist following Pat O’Brien’s arrest
Cannibal Corpse have officially found a replacement guitarist. According to Consequence of Sound, the band will enlist Hate Eternal frontman Erik Rutan to fill in on guitar for their 2019 tour run.
Last month, original guitarist Pat O’Brien made headlines after he was arrested on burglary and assault charges. However, from there, the story just got weirder.

While a massive fire raged in his own home, O’Brien broke into another Tampa home, pushed its inhabitants to the ground and then charged at a police officer with a knife. Apparently, the guitarist also told the residents whose home he had broken into that the “rapture” was coming.
After the fire had been put out, a source told police that O’Brien had a stash of various arsenal weapons in his home. After searching the burnt rubble, investigators found over 80 firearms, two flamethrowers, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and three skulls.
The type of skulls were not specified in the report.
Needless to say, O’Brien’s arrest put the rest of Cannibal Corpse in quite the pickle. The band recently issued a statement about the future of the band and their current relationship with their guitarist.
“As a band and as individuals, we all want nothing but the best for our brother and partner, Pat,” the band say. “While we can offer no further information about the incident, we wanted everyone to know that Pat is getting the help he needs and appreciates the love and support from Cannibal Corpse fans around the world.”
With full intention to continue their future tour with Slayer, Cannibal Corpse’s latest addition of Rutan will make their forthcoming run much easier.
