Hear Carlie Hanson and iann dior let their “Ego” speak in new collab

With several releases under her belt this year, it doesn’t look like Carlie Hanson will be slowing down anytime soon. Alongside rapper iann dior, the alt-pop singer is letting her “Ego” speak in her politically-charged new single.

Hanson released her first single in 2017 with “Why Did You Lie?” and several more tracks over the years before sharing her debut EP in 2019 with Junk. Over the course of the past few years, she’s supported artists such as YUNGBLUD and Troye Sivan on tour. The singer dropped a few singles this year including “Daze Inn” and “Good Enough,” where she opens up about the “darkest periods” of her life.

Earlier this year, dior worked with Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker to create “Sick and Tired.” Since then, he’s released his third full-length album I’m Gone and was recently featured in Jack Gilinsky’s “Lose Somebody.” The rapper also appears on “nothing inside” off MGK’s brand-new pop-punk album Tickets To My Downfall.

Hanson began teasing her followers on Twitter last week when she reminded them about a previously mentioned collab. The vocalist made several posts saying her fans weren’t ready for what she had in the works.

On Sept. 18, she posted a silent video of jamming out with Dior and another tweet a few days later telling fans she wasn’t through with sharing new content this month. The duo finally shared the name of the track and it’s release date this past Tuesday.

With the current political climate, Hanson says some lines in the track were inspired by her anger towards police and authority.

“We, as a society, cannot ignore what is happening in our world every single day,” she says. “From police brutality to corrupt leaders, to the inequality that many people face in their everyday lives, we need to stand up for ourselves and for other people and be loud as f— as it seems to be the only thing that works! Sit down, so we can speak up for ourselves, so we can be heard.”

“I’m a massive fan of iann dior and felt that he would totally get this song and the energy. I’m so excited to finally release our baby. I hope we can inspire others to fight for the change they want to see in the world.”

The singer is also teasing the release of the track’s accompanying music video, but a release date has not been shared.

Carlie Hanson “Ego” featuring iann dior lyrics

Sit down
Sit down

Sit down, let my ego speak
I wanna fly cars, yeah, but no back seat (Yeah, baby)
Eyes low, keep it so high-key
Ten eleven thirteen fuck COP (Yeah, baby)
Sit down, let my ego speak
Sit down, let my ego speak (Yeah, baby)
Eyes low, keep it so high-key
Ten eleven thirteen fuck COP (Ok)

Didn’t wanna do it, but you made me
Built my whole life from a daydream
I can understand why you hate me
I’m like ooh, ooh
Tell me why it burns to be so cold
See me through your screen, you got fomo
Yeah, everywhere I go, it’s a freak show
I’m like ooh, ooh

I didn’t mean to go
So hard, but you know it’s true
I didn’t mean to go
So hard, but you know it’s true, ooh-oh, ooh-oh-ooh

Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock, what?
Listen to the words that I speak
Sounded like a siren you could hear a mile up the street
The way I got ’em shouting
Love that we make under them sheets, turn the outcome
Tryna process how it feels, system overload
Time to crack open the seal, don’t pick up the phone
I’m sorry if I made it feel like love is overdose
The love is overdose
Fuck it, take another dose
