Carlie Hanson reconciles with her dreams of fame on new single “Illusion”

Carlie Hanson has returned with another new single, “Illusion.” The track follows “608,” her first new music since her sophomore record, Tough Boy.

“Illusion” is a contemplative cut that revolves around the feeling of being lost and her own misgivings about fame. Hanson’s introspection is backed by an alt-pop sound that ebbs and flows.

“I wrote this one from a place of understanding that nothing in life will go exactly how you plan it in your head,” Hanson says. “You can set expectations but, in reality, you never know what’s going to happen.”

The track is accompanied by a meditative visual directed by Logan Rice, where Hanson rides on the backs of trucks and takes walks through the woods. The video was filmed in her hometown of Onalaska, Wisconsin, rife with shots of cornfields, two-lane roads and wide open spaces.

Hanson appeared on the cover of Alternative Press’ January issue, where we highlighted her as an artist to watch in 2022. You can pick up a copy here.
