Here’s a throwback for you—check out this 1985 documentary on Cleveland’s then-emerging hardcore scene. This seven-minute clip discusses “slam-dancing,” women in the scene, early record labels and the challenges of finding local venues to keep the scene going. It even mentions AP (at 5:47) and its supporting role.

Alternative Press got its start back in June of 1985 as a fanzine covering underground music in Cleveland. You can catch cameos from AP’s first editor, Dave Earle, at 1:07, as well as several other key players in the scene. Check it out below!
