This church uses twenty one pilots songs to guide sermons

A Christian church in Texas has implemented an unconventional style of preaching through twenty one pilots songs. WoodsEdge Community Church says that the meanings and parables found in their songs can be tied to the Gospel.

Created by Pastor Justin Ulmer, the sermon examines the lyrics of twenty one pilots songs. Sermons also hone in on the Gospel messages set forth within them. The sermon itself mostly focuses on what it means to repent. WoodsEdge Community Church believes that this is also a common theme in the band’s lyricism.

According to their website, to repent means to change the way you think. This also happens to be the band’s mission statement.

“What sets Josh & Tyler apart from other bands is that they meet their audience where they are, as they are, and they let them know: ‘We get you. We care about you,’” the church’s website says. “And once their audience feels loved by them, they can slowly challenge them to consider a new way of thinking, a new way of feeling, and a new way of living.”
