More on Warped Tour

Established in 1995, Warped Tour was founded by Kevin Lyman and Ray Woodbury. Though named as a nod to Transworld’s Warp Magazine, which was thematically adjacent to the tour, its main sponsor would come by way of Vans in 1996. Other notable sponsors over the years included SoBe, Monster Energy, Samsung, Journeys, and Alternative Press.

The 1995 Warped Tour was established as an alternative rock festival but took on a predominantly skate punk-leaning following its partnership with Vans. Over the years it evolved to include a variety of different genres, from hardcore to pop. Having set the stage for more than 1,700 different acts, the tour has been credited as part of the foundation for artists such as Paramore, blink-182 and My Chemical Romance.

Prior to its final cross-country run in 2018, Warped Tour boasted the title of the “longest-running touring music festival in America” though it also made sporadic international stops in Europe, Australia and Japan. Soon after the conclusion of the “final Warped Tour,” Lyman announced three 2019 dates in celebration of the tour’s 25th anniversary and the opening of a related exhibit in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

While it appears certain that Warped Tour as we know it is now firmly in the rearview mirror, a tweet by Lyman earlier this year hinted that we may see a new incarnation under a different name.
