The live-action 'Clifford The Big Red Dog' is already bewildering fans
If you felt a visceral reaction to the strange Sonic The Hedgehog live-action design, you’re likely going to have some flashbacks to those thoughts when you see the first look at the Clifford The Big Red Dog movie.
The design for the upcoming live-action Clifford film is a bit unsettling to look at and people online are feeling perplexed with the strange choices.

The film was initially reported on back in 2012 but was said to be cancelled a year later. Shortly afterwards, the film was back in motion with Universal Pictures before Paramount Pictures bought the rights in 2016.
Since then, it was revealed that Walt Becker is directing while Ellen Rapoport is re-writing the script originally made by Justin Malen.
An initial design photo of Clifford leaked last year but until now, we haven’t seen what Paramount’s version of the lovable giant dog would really look like.
Much like the oddly realistic look of Sonic that faced so much backlash that the film did a complete redesign, there’s something off about Clifford here. He is, of course, a colossal red cartoon dog but the life-like look is strange and the shade of red looks better suited for a blood ritual than a cutesy children’s movie.
Paramount’s description for the film’s plot at least sounds like what you would want out of a live-action telling of Clifford’s story.
When middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on an adventure that will keep you on the edge-of-your-seat as our heroes take a bite out of the Big Apple.
You can watch the first look at the film below and see Clifford’s design for yourself. The film doesn’t have a release date yet but is expected to be arriving sometime in 2021.
