Cole Sprouse won't be singing in the upcoming Riverdale musical episode, but that doesn't mean he's not going to have an important role in it.

Jughead Jones will be directing a documentary about the making of Riverdale High's musical.

When approached by director Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Sprouse said he wasn't really thrilled with the idea of joining the musical cast.

“Cole and I talked about it a while ago, and I said, 'How do you feel about musicals?'” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine. “At that time, we were going to do Little Shop Of Horrors. And he basically said, 'Listen, I never sang for Disney. It would take a lot.'”

So, instead of performing Carrie: The Musical, Jughead will be directing a documentary about it, and Sprouse shared a few details of his participation in the episode.

“He's behind the camera for most of it,” Sprouse tells Bustle. “And then some of the shots you'll be seeing from Jughead's POV, where you see the shaky hands, the handheld camera footage, that is what Jughead is shooting.”

“He's more of an observer and fly on the wall for this episode, and Jughead's narration isn't in this one,” he continues.

To be honest, that seems way more fitting with the character than dancing and singing, right?

As for the characters who will be singing and dancing, Bustle reports Lili Reinhard and KJ Apa's abilities were highly praised by the cast. We can't wait to watch it.

The Stephen King-inspired musical episode will be titled “A Night To Remember” and is set to air April 18 at 8 p.m., featuring 11 songs from the musical.
