Following the tragic events at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in South Florida, Corey Taylor, Halestorm, Monster Energy Fort Rock festival producers and other artists are showing their support for the students and advocating for school safety.
In an effort to support initiatives for school safety and to create awareness for efforts to promote change, the festival is offering 50 percent off the price of Fort Rock general admission weekend tickets for those who sign the “Students Fighting Guns Since Adults Won't” petition, which was created by high school student Julia Kemple of Kalamazoo, Michigan in response to the Florida shootings.
What's cool? It's been signed by 200,000+ people across the nation already. But the musicians are hoping to increase the numbers even more.
"I’m absolutely behind this movement. Not only the name itself, but the reason and the cause," Corey Taylor explains. "As a father, my one concern is my children. The fact that no one is doing anything worthwhile to change the horrendous laws and circumstances around these shootings is unacceptable. So if the adults can’t extricate themselves from the politics that are keeping them from ACTUALLY making a difference, I support the generation who will."
Halestorm offer a similar sentiment. "To all the students that have been affected by gun violence, and to students everywhere, YOU are the ones we’ve been waiting for. Our future is what YOU make it and the path is yours to blaze. YOU are the fire! We are proud to stand by you as we push to make this planet a better place. Love, Lzzy, Arejay, Joe and Josh of Halestorm."
The promotion will be available to future Fort Rock ticket buyers through Apr. 1, and even if you already purchased your ticket, you can still sign the petition and get your 50 percent off. Simply screenshot your signature and forward your confirmation email to email@example.com.
The sixth annual Monster Energy Fort Rock festival is set to take place April 28 and April 29 in Fort Lauderdale, featuring Ozzy Osbourne, Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, Stone Sour, Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, Stone Temple Pilots, Halestorm and more.
