Cover Premiere: Roger Harvey & The Wild Life - "Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone" (Neutral Milk Hotel)

Roger Harvey of White Wives has a new project: Roger Harvey & The Wild Life.

The group came together when Harvey befriended producer/multi-instrumentalist J. Vega in 2012. The duo worked on the recording of their debut album, with the help of a dozen friends and music makers, for over a year at Vega's studio, The Wilderness. To bring the songs to life, the group added drummer Erik Pitluga and bassist Josh Hovanec.

The group teamed up with Wild Kindness Records for the release of a series of limited seven-inch singles, eventually leading to the release of their debut full-length, Twelve Houses in September. The first seven-inch of the series, City Deer B/W Arrow/Plane, will go on sale 12 a.m. EST on February 1 here. (The official release date will be February 15 in correlation with their first show in Pittsburgh.) The seven-inches are limited to 50 copies each and will include no digital download and will not be available in any digital format at this time.

Today, we’re bringing you an exclusive stream of the group’s first song, a cover of “Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone” by Neutral Milk Hotel.

“We recorded this song to acknowledge a band that means a lot to us,” says Harvey. “Music is power, and without the music that has inspired us, this project would not exist and there's a good chance that we wouldn't either.”

Listen to the song, and let us know your thoughts.
