“Hold On” is about “mutually surrendering yourself to another person,” Tilian says. “Sometimes even when you are close to someone, you put up barriers of isolation and duplicity that inevitably lead to you having to lie to yourself.”

And the accompanying video explores those complex emotions to devastating effect. The Shawn Butcher-directed visual focuses on the family dynamic in an eye-opening way, making it one of Tillian’s more powerful observations.

The clip “uses imagery of the relationship between a father and son, spanning thirty years,” he adds. “Moments of intense pleasure juxtaposed by the fear and shock of loss will hopefully produce the emotional satisfaction of a … classical tragedy.”

The video follows the reveal of first single “Cocky,” which was paired with the audio debut of the haunting “Hold On.” Pre-order Tilian’s new album The Skeptic here, and see the singer’s upcoming tour dates down after the new vid.
