‘Deadpool 3’ enters “big leagues” at Marvel Studios, Ryan Reynolds says

Deadpool is back. You read that right. Deadpool 3 is officially in the works according to its star Ryan Reynolds. There are no release details as of yet.

All we know is that it is happening and that Marvel Studios is bringing the picture to life.

Disney purchased 21st Century Fox earlier this year which made Deadpool fans incredibly uneasy. They didn’t think that Disney would want to create an R-rated superhero movie. Deadpool doesn’t exactly fir in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (as of yet) so negotiating the film would be a difficult sell.

But a Christmas miracle happened. On Christmas Eve, Reynolds appeared on Live With Kelly and Ryan and discussed they are walking on Deadpool 3.

“Yeah we’re working on it right now with the whole team,” Reynolds said. “We’re over at Marvel [Studios] now, which is like the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kinda crazy. So yeah, we’re working on it.”

Earlier this year, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld tweeted that a third movie was happening.

David Leitch, who directed the second film, has opened up about his “crazy ideas” for how the next film could be incorporated into the MCU.

“In everybody’s world, everybody wants to make it,” he told Comicbook.com “So, if I was ever approached to make Deadpool 3, my answer would be, ‘Hell yes,’ but I think there’s a lot of things going on in the shake up with Fox and Disney and where that whole Marvel world after Endgame is gonna be. When the dust settles, let’s hope that Deadpool lives. That’s kind of ironic, right?”

Then, he went on to talk about his ideas more, but kept it vague.

“I have a lot of ideas, but I’m keeping them close to my vest so, if they ever come and I’m grateful enough for them to call, I can share all my crazy ideas,” he said.

Our most recent piece of news was back in October about the rating of a third Deadpool film.

Following the Disney and Fox merger, fans began to wonder how the R-rated films would fit in the PG-13 MCU.

According to Variety‘s Brent Lang, Disney and Marvel have been debating on how to transition between the two ratings.

“Iger notes X-Men, Deadpool, Fantastic 4 are now under Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige’s control. Hear from sources that there are debates about whether Deadpool can move seamlessly between R-rated solo outings and PG-13 rated MCU movies.”

Essentially that sounded like the forthcoming Deadpool 3 film and any further solo endeavors would be able to maintain their R-rating. However, when Deadpool is tossed alongside the likes of the Avengers, he will be toned down to meet the more family-friendly rating.

When we learned of that news, ratings for any forthcoming film involving the merc with a mouth had yet to be determined. Now, Disney has made that confirmation.

“We’re always in touch with Ryan. We’ve got several projects with him in addition to the Deadpool universe,” Deadpool co-writer Paul Wernick said to Entertainment Weekly. “I think the party line and truth is we’re all still figuring it out. Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox.”

It’s relieving to know that Deadpool’s vulgar personality won’t have to be compromised in the upcoming film thanks to the merger.

So, now we know they’re officially working on Deadpool 3 and that it will be exactly the type of rating we would expect from the Merc with a Mouth.
