Disney has announced a release date for ‘Indiana Jones 5’

After announcing at the start of 2016 that Indiana Jones 5 would be happening, Disney has set a release date for the new film for July 19, 2019 reports NME.

Harrison Ford will be returning as the one and only Indiana Jones, and it is expected to be directed by Steven Spielberg, who directed the previous four films.

In a statement, NME reports that Disney chairman Alan Horn said: “Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019. It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Last January, Disney chairman and CEO Robert Iger confirmed in an interview with Bloomberg that the fifth Indiana Jones movie is in the works.

“Indiana Jones—by the way, which will be coming—we still have more great stories,” Iger says during a conversation about Disney’s storytelling.

Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in October 2012 for $4 billion, rumors have been abound concerning a new Indiana Jones sequel. The Indiana Jones franchise started in 1981, and the most recent film was 2008’s Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull.
