In the episode, Elliot serenades Rue (Zendaya) with an acoustic song. The song is beautiful in its own right, but it also underscores the complexities of Rue and Elliot’s relationship.

“We made the song shorter…” Fike joked on his Instagram yesterday (March 4) after fans began sharing memes about the original length of the song. “Elliot’s Song” now features Zendaya on vocals as well.

In his Alternative Press cover interview, Fike was possibly hinting at the song.

“The night of the premiere, my shit was going crazy. I was trending on Apple Music with no new music, and I felt so bad!” he says, laughing. “Sooner or later, though, new music has to come. I mean, it really has to be before the show ends.” He paused, did some calculations. “Like within eight weeks from now? Seven or eight weeks?”
