Elon Musk certainly has quite a complex relationship with the internet. After his partner Grimes gave birth to their first child together, Musk received a flood of memes in response to the child’s name X Æ A-ii.  Then, in November, Musk earned a lot of backlash after he questioned the effectiveness of COVID-19 tests.

After taking various inconclusive tests, he shared a series of tweets that questioned the accuracy of the rapid COVID-19 tests. The tweets eventually earned responses from medical professionals including one doctor who gave Musk the now-viral nickname “Space Karen.”

Now, it looks like he is angering the internet for a whole new reason. On Dec. 13, he shared a meme poking fun at individuals who share their pronouns in their social media bios.

Many individuals who are transgender list their pronouns in their bios in order to not be misgendered. Naturally, Musk’s decision to mock this action earned him a slew of tweets calling him out.

Two days later, Musk decided to clarify his stance on pronouns and it went down as well as you’d expect. He goes on to say that he fully supports transgender individuals. However, he thinks pronouns are an “esthetic nightmare.”

“I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare.”

He also retweeted an article about Tesla’s support of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Very proud to have scored 100/100 for the fourth year in a row in LGBTQ equality,” the company’s Twitter said. “Thanks to everyone at Tesla for making LGBTQ inclusion an important part of our culture.”

Following his tweets, Grimes seemingly weighed in on the matter. She ended up tweeting a link to the LGBTQ Fund.

Even after all of the tweets, a lot of individuals do not think Musk should spread such negative views on pronouns. Especially considering being referred to as the right gender/representation is very important to the transgender community.

Back in July, we learned that Musk is teaming up with Tom Cruise and NASA to film the first-ever movie in space. According to Deadline, the project has a staggering $200 million budget to make it happen. As well, it looks like Elon Musk wants to ditch headphones and create brain chips that stream music.
