Epicenter Festival and Sonic Temple are no longer happening in 2021
It looks like the 2021 festival and event cancelations are slowly gaining speed. Shortly after both Glastonbury and Coachella canceled their 2021 festivals, it’s been announced that Epicenter and Sonic Temple are also no longer taking place this year.
Despite this setback, Welcome To Rockville, Louder Than Life, Aftershock and Inkcarceration are still scheduled for later this year.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, most festivals were pushed back to 2021. However, with the United States still facing a lot of cases, promoter Danny Wimmer Presents has made the tough decision to cancel both Epicenter and Sonic Temple this year. Both of these events were also canceled in 2020.
Danny Wimmer Presents promises that Epicenter and Sonic Temple will be back “bigger than ever” in 2022. However, Aftershock, Welcome To Rockville, Inkcarceration and Louder Than Life are still scheduled to happen this year.
“Taking our festivals down last year was one of the most painful experiences our company has ever lived through,” Danny Wimmer says. “And it wasn’t just painful for us, it was hard on the bands, fans, partners, cities and vendors. It has become clear to us that we will not be able to have our festivals this spring, and for a variety of reasons, it is not possible to produce all of our annual festivals in the window of Fall 2021, so we made the difficult decision to only produce Aftershock, Welcome To Rockville and Louder Than Life this year. These are our longest-running and most geographically diverse festivals. Focusing on these three events, along with Inkcarceration Festival at the end of July gives as many fans as possible, from all over the country, the chance to rock again.”

Beginning Wednesday, Epicenter and Sonic Temple pass holders will receive an email regarding their tickets. They can either opt for a full refund or apply their existing pass credit to any of Danny Wimmer Presents’ other 2021 festivals. This option includes Inkcarceration, Louder Than Life, Aftershock and Welcome To Rockville.
Louder Than Life is set to happen Sept. 23 – 26 in Louisville, Kentucky. This year, they’ve added a Thursday night celebration to help kick off the weekend. All current pass holders will receive admission to the new night for free.
Welcome To Rockville 2021 is now happen across 4-days in the fall. From Nov. 11-14, the festival is relocating to the Daytona International Speedway in Florida. As well, the Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival is set to happen July 23-25 in Mansfield, Ohio.
Information on band lineups, tickets and on-sale dates for these festivals will arrive this spring.

Back in October, we learned that Aftershock Festival is happening Oct. 7 – 10, 2021. My Chemical Romance and Metallica are returning as this year’s headliners. As well, Machine Gun Kelly, Rise Against, Parkway Drive and Rancid are also performing at the festival.
Last July, Lollapalooza co-founder Marc Geiger said that the United States shouldn’t expect concerts to return until at least 2022.
“In my humble opinion, it’s going to be 2022,” Geiger said. “It’s going to take that long before, what I call, the germaphobic economy is slowly killed off and replaced by the claustrophobic economy. That’s when people want to get out and go out to dinner and have their lives, go to festivals and shows.”
However, last month, NIAID Director Dr. Fauci revealed he thinks concerts and events could resume this fall in the United States. However, this is all heavily dependent on COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

“If everything goes right, this is will occur some time in the fall of 2021,” Dr. Fauci said via the New York Times. “So that by the time we get to the early to mid-fall, you can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as people in the audience.”
Even if the U.S. does reach herd immunity in this time frame, Fauci says concerts will probably be different from how they were before. Venues and theaters may still have to take safety precautions including social distancing and mask-wearing. These rules could stick around for some time as the rest of the country gets vaccinated.
