Here’s how you can get dark mode on Facebook’s desktop site
The company's redesign is going live today (May 8) with a more minimalist approach to the site's desktop version coming along with other changes.
Facebook announced they were making adjustments to the social media platform last year but changes are finally being made widely available now.
They offered some users the ability to manually make the changes back in March and leave feedback but now the redesign is being made official. Until it's made a regular appearance, you can manually switch over to the new design too.
The core goal of the redesign is simplicity. That's a difficult task for a site such as Facebook which has so many different functions.
It's taking tips from what's worked on their mobile app with faster load times and easier navigation.
The biggest change that should get people excited though is the addition of dark mode to their desktop site. Some people simply don't like the glaring white backgrounds on some websites as it's straining on the eyes.
The site looks completely different from how it previously did now. To make the switch, simply click on the dropdown bar which brings up setting and click on "Switch to new Facebook." From there, you'll have the option to toggle dark mode on and off.
One of the other changes coming is a quicker and easier way of creating pages, groups and ads. You also now get to see previews of what you're posting before hitting publish.
“We’ve grown since Facebook.com launched 16 years ago,” the company writes. “We’ve built new features, optimized for new devices and operating systems, and expanded to hundreds of languages. Recently we’d focused on the mobile Facebook experience, and realized our desktop site had fallen behind. People need it to keep up.”
The company is still looking for feedback on the redesign so if you have suggestions, feel free to let them know in the settings menu.
