Hear Fall Out Boy’s modernized cover of “We Didn’t Start the Fire”

Last week, Fall Out Boy kicked off their much-anticipated So Much For (Tour) Dust with a hometown show at Wrigley Field. Now, in the throes of their North American run, the band shared a cover of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

The new song isn’t your typical cover. Rather, Fall Out Boy have updated its references to fit modern times, from 1989 to 2023. Just like Joel, Patrick Stump rattles off a vexing number of cultural touchstones, including Twilight, Woodstock ’99, and Tom DeLonge.

Tonight, Fall Out Boy will perform in Dallas with Bring Me The Horizon and Daisy Grenade. The group will make stops in several other cities this summer before wrapping up Aug. 6 in Camden, New Jersey and heading overseas. Perhaps they’ll bust out this cover.
