Fan dies after reportedly stage diving at Miss May I show in New York

A fan has died after a Miss May I show at Webster Hall in New York City on Saturday Night. Though early reports stated that the fan died after stage diving, the venue has now disputed those claims, stating that the fan collapsed after leaving the show. We will be updating the story below.

UPDATE: According to BrooklynVegan, Webster Hall says that despite what people are saying on Miss May I's Facebook page, “the patron in question did not die while stage diving. The patron collapsed while exiting the venue, as video footage and the police corroborate.”

UPDATE #2: We’ve reached out to Webster Hall and they’ve confirmed BrooklynVegan’s report that the fan collapsed outside of the venue. They stated that reports of the fan dying from stage diving are “erroneous,” and that he was walking out of the venue “on his own strength.” We were also told that video footage will corroborate this.

UPDATE #3: Read a full statement from Miss May I below:

“As many of you will have heard, Alberto Scott, a Miss May I fan in attendance at our Webster Hall show on Saturday night tragically died. We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear this news. We are awaiting a full report from the New York Police Department. In the meantime, we’d ask that all your thoughts and prayers be with his family. We have been made aware of a webpage that is raising funds to help pay for his funeral costs. We will be making a contribution and we’d strongly urge others to do so- http://www.gofundme.com/8vjoq.”

UPDATE #4: Miss May I have released a second, longer statement on Alberto Scott:

“Hey everyone, apologies for the radio silence these last couple of days. After what happened we've all taken some time to reflect but we had to speak up today to give our heartfelt thanks.

First and foremost, to those who've reached out tooffer their sympathies or who've kept Alberto and his family in their thoughts and prayers. In particular to all those who donated to his family; after only a few days they have almost reached their fundraising goal. If you can spare any amount, no matter how small, it will be greatly appreciated. You can do so herewww.gofundme.com/8vjoqc

We're also looking into an auction. Something unique from the band will be listed online in the coming weeks; with the proceeds to go to Alberto's family also. More news on that very soon.

Lastly, we just got the news today that Rise Of The Lion charted at number 21 in the Billboard Chart. We couldn't be more appreciative for each and every one of you who made this happen for us. Every track on the new record was written with our fans in mind and, after the events this week, it's been an extremely emotional few days.

With that in mind, we'd like to dedicate this to the memory of Alberto

Levi, Ryan, Justin, BJ & Jerod x”

The band posted the following statement to their Facebook page:

“Hey everyone, we are aware of the incident that occurred at Webster Hall last night and will be posting a statement shortly. However, we are awaiting further information regarding the situation before we are able to make a full statement.”
