10 smells every scene kid could recognize instantly

They say that the sense of smell brings back stronger memories than the other senses, and it’s totally true when you come across some of these. What a throwback.

Here are 10 smells that any scene kid, young or old, will instantly recognize.

1. Hot Topic

Basically, the smell of vinyl and preservatives.

2. That one friend’s basement

We all had that one friend with a musty old basement where we played Guitar Hero after school. Good times.

3. Hair dye

Not a great smell, but one that we put up with nonetheless to get our look.

4. Hair spray

See above.

5. Leather polish

For those of us who could afford Doc Martens, leather polish was a necessity.

6. A new pair of Converse

For those of us who couldn’t afford Doc Martens, these sneakers were pretty much just as good. And that fresh scent when you opened the box? It was the start of a new shoe life.

7. Nail polish

Nail polish and, of course, nail polish remover.

8. Sharpie markers

These were basically the scene kid’s tattoo.

9. Smoke at a show

You know, the fake fog at a concert? That smell might harken back memories for lots of people, but especially scene kids, who probably saw their favorite band play under the misty ambiance.

10. Cigarette smoke

Whether you smoked, had a friend who smoked or just stood around with a bunch of people smoking outside a show, you know this smell well.
