Academy Killer go “The Distance” to bring back the fun in pop punk

AP is proud to premiere a new video for the latest Academy Killer single, “The Distance,” taken from their forthcoming sophomore EP, Lost In Make Believe.

The Hamilton pop punkers are defined by their contagious liveliness enveloped in a bright wall of power chords and an uplifting attitude. “The Distance” puts the band right back on their feet only to relaunch them further into their next chapter of pure pop-punk fun.

“The message is simple: Live passionately, follow your heart and chase your dreams,” vocalist Kevin Talbot says. “Everything you do, do it with your entire being.”

As Talbot cheerfully repeats the hook, “It’s out of hand, not out of reach,” this upbeat track not only hypes crowds but also aims to spread a positive message with its catchy lyrics.

“We are trying to reinforce the mindset that no goal is too big,” drummer Nathan Schuster adds. “It’s all about your attitude and perspective.”

Academy Killer broke onto the Ontario scene with their 2016 debut EP, Late To The Party, and quickly gained a local following. Building upon a foundation of pop punk, the band also cite their musical influences from emo, modern pop, ’90s rock and even the stylings of ’50s crooners.

Hooking listeners with their introspective lyrics and radiating performances, the quartet soon made festival appearances at Burlington’s Sound of Music, Hamilton’s Supercrawl and Toronto’s Canadian Music Week. The band continue to push their creative boundaries to keep their momentum alive in their upcoming EP.

Lost In Make Believe drops Sept. 20, and you can preorder it here
