Bad Suns play an unforgettable secret show in Los Angeles—live review

On Tuesday at a secret location, tucked away in the hills of Los Angeles, Bad Suns performed an intimate set for a select group of their die-hard fans and industry peers in celebration of their fourth studio album, Apocalypse Whenever

The event was organized and presented by Rock Night Out, Epitaph Records and Alternative Press. Additionally, refreshments were provided by Liquid Death, Fresh Brothers and Health-Ade.

Bad Suns have had quite an eventful week so far. Not only have they just released their incredible new studio album, but they’ve also recently embarked on their highly anticipated U.S. headlining tour with support from Kid Bloom, Little Image, girlfriends and more*

Now that the tour has landed in the band’s hometown of Los Angeles, Bad Suns are set to perform for two nights at the historic Fonda Theatre in the heart of Hollywood. For the album release event, 40 select ticket holders for either night of the LA performances were chosen to attend a special night in the presence of the band. They were treated with a surprise performance of songs that would be exclusive for the event only, which created an intimate experience and a special moment to see a band that typically play massive venues with thousands of fans.

The night beamed with positivity as fans showed up in droves to the secret location. The event kicked off with an intimate listening experience of the new album, unlimited kombucha and pizza, and the opportunity to purchase merchandise directly from the band without the hassle of a long line. Smiles radiated throughout the gorgeous outdoor space as people came together to celebrate their love of music, and the anticipation for the band to take the stage was palpable at every moment.

When the clock struck 8 p.m., Bad Suns took the stage. As bodies of fans and peers shuffled their way to the front, the band wasted no time, jumping straight into an electric performance of select tracks from their recent release, as well as some deep cuts that were exclusive to this special event only. It was a joyous experience to witness as people sang along to every word, and the feeling of positivity was mutual within the band as they smiled through the set, taking time to thank their supporters endlessly for coming out to celebrate.

Before the last song of the set commenced, frontman Christo Bowman used the intimate setting as an opportunity to open up the floor for a brief Q&A with the band, much to their fans’ delight. The result was a special and engaging moment where artists and their communities of supporters could connect on a face-to-face level, a testament to the band’s humble and down-to-earth nature.

Finally, as the last note of the performance rang out, Bowman told the crowd that there would be no encore. (The band had four shows in a row starting the next night, and he would have to rest his voice.) Make no mistake, though. Bowman and the rest of the band immediately made themselves available to talk to every fan in attendance after the set, which truly showed how much they value and respect their supporters.
