Bamboozle California Q&A: The Maine

Julie Ciccarelli, winner of our Bamboozle California guest reporter contest, caught up with THE MAINE at the festival this past weekend in Anaheim, California.

What is your favorite part about playing a festival like Bamboozle California?
Pat Kirch: It’s always fun playing festivals because you’re playing to such a large crowd. You get to see old friends and see other great bands perform.

What has been the craziest/coolest festival experience you’ve had to date?
Kennedy Brock: The first year we ever played Bamboozle, we opened up the day on the Main Stage and we weren’t expecting that, so that was definitely pretty cool.

Do you guys prefer festivals or a regular club tour?
Pat Kirch: We enjoy both. It’s always good to go back and forth between the two and mix it up.

You’re one of those bands who seem to tour nonstop. What lessons have you learned on the road in the past two years?
Garrett Nicklesen: Put your money in the bank! [Laughs.]
John O’Callaghan: You always have to remember to be human and make sure to act civil.

What was the process like recording your new album, the follow-up to 2008’s Can’t Stop Won’t Stop?
Jared Monaco: There was definitely a long-planning process ahead of time and making sure everything was ready for pre-production.
John O’Callaghan: We worked with Howard Benson and his team, which was great. It’s been a good 6-7 months in the works, so it was awesome to have it come together in the studio. It should be out some time in the summer and we’re looking forward to playing it for fans. alt
