Machine Gun Kelly – “Wonderwall”
More “Wonderwall,” please! We've all borne witness to AP #345 cover star Machine Gun Kelly's creative transformation, and the dude just keeps on killing it at any genre he gets his hands on. (Limp Bizkit's “Break Stuff,” anybody?) Have a listen to MGK's live cover of “Wonderwall”—he even looks like Liam Gallagher while belting out the timeless tune!
Weezer – “Morning Glory”
On tour in 2008, Weezer often trotted out their rendition of “Morning Glory.” Perhaps the song's '08 inclusion was a subtle cover-song anniversary indicator from the band: In 1998, Rivers Cuomo and company played an entire set of early Oasis covers at a “secret” show in Santa Barbara, California, under the name Goat Punishment.
Through The Darkness – “Wonderwall”
Iowan hard-rockers Through The Darkness get props for their Punk Goes Pop-style cover of “Wonderwall.” This is probably the most divergent interpretation of the bunch: Imagine the Oasis hit rendered in the alt-rock style of a band like Stone Sour or maybe Seether. Now check it out!
Liam Gallagher & Coldplay – “Live Forever”
Oasis covering Oasis? Well, kinda. Liam Gallagher teamed up with Coldplay at the One Love Manchester concert in June for a stirring version of Definitely Maybe's “Live Forever.” The event benefitted victims of the tragic Manchester Arena bombing that occurred earlier this year.
Portugal. The Man – “Don't Look Back In Anger”
It wouldn't feel right if we didn’t include this excellent cover from the group who are probably the mainstream-crossover story of the year, Portugal. The Man. (Seriously, millions are probably singing along to “Feel It Still” as we type this.) Anybody remember when their singer was in the Rise Records screamo band Anatomy Of A Ghost? No? Alright, then.
What other covers should we add to the list? Sound off in the comments.
