Guest Blog: August Burns Red

August Burns Red frontman Jacob Luhrs checks in from the road for the first installment of his exclusive guest blog.

Hello, Altpress!

Since becoming a member of AUGUST BURNS RED, it’s been the touring aspect of this band that has really affected me more than anything. I’ve encountered a lot of interesting people, have been all over the world and have experienced so many different cultures. It blows my mind. It’s been an amazing ride and I wanted to kick off my blog with a topic about one of the more simple things that happens to me (us) on tour: The unending support we get from the kids that come out to our shows.

On this tour, the moment I got off the stage at El Corazon in Seattle, I was given a perfect example for this discussion. Tyler Davidson is a fan from Seattle, and he’s been at every August Burns Red show there since 2006. I don’t think there are many bands any of use would go to see that many times (for me it’s Hopesfall), so it’s a pretty big honor for us that he’s come out so many times.

After we got off stage, he came up to talk to me about the set and his love of the band in general. For those who don’t know, I make it a point to go to the merch booth after each show to hang out and meet everyone. One of the main reasons I got into being in a band was to meet new people and trade stories about life, love and the pursuit of, well, whatever it is you’re pursuing.

Tyler expressed how much our albums’ lyrics and music have affected him and he also touched on the spiritual side of the band. ABR have always made it a point to be who we are, but not shove it down anyone’s throat. So hearing someone is affected by the same things I’ve been while writing and performing is one of the greatest things to have happen. Even more amazing is the fact that he has an ABR flame logo tattooed on his leg.

Anyway, I kind of wanted to kick this thing off by expresssing some gratitude to everyone who supports us and keeps me out on the road and in the studio doing what I love. Make sure you come out to one of the shows on our current tour with the Acacia Strain, Impending Doom & My Children My Bride and say hi. Next blog entry: the insanity that is touring with ABR will be revealed in words and pictures. Get into it!! Thanks for reading and thanks to Tyler for the inspiration. See you on the road.

God Bless,

Jacob Luhrs
