Crown The Empire break down the intense topics of ‘Sudden Sky’

If the scene is dying, the latest Crown The Empire record may mark a revival. Setting the tone with blindsiding singles such as “MZRY,” the band only match the massive magnitude of breakdowns with the weight of their words.

This is far from the same band who started packing summer Warped Tour sets, though. Maturity meets experimentation and delicate composition, which is rare for a metalcore album. Crown The Empire aren’t resting on their laurels, instead opting to push the label with a slew of varying influences blended with their signature metal sound.

While the album is highlighted by hard-hitting topics, their words are simply how the band see the world today. Overall, guitarist Brandon Hoover considers it as a glance of the band members and who they are now.

Sudden Sky is a digital representation of who we are at this moment in time,” Hoover says. “It captures our innermost fears and anxieties while questioning humanity and the chaos of the world we live in today. This urgent search for meaning taught us that the only way to truly be human is to be vulnerable.”

But who better to explain these risks and rewards than the band themselves? Drummer Brent Taddie and vocalist/keyboardist Andrew Rockhold took some time to give insight on the new record. Listen to the duo break down their inspirations through ex-girlfriend stories, day-to-day drags and society as a whole below.

Sudden Sky is available now for download or streaming here.
