Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba still gets pre-show nerves

Dashboard Confessional are giving a first-look at their one-hour show on AUDIENCE Network with an exclusive premiere of their “Heart Beat Here” performance. The concert airs on AUDIENCE Network via DIRECTV Ch 239 and on-demand through DIRECTV NOW Friday, Oct. 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba also went behind the scenes with AUDIENCE Network to describe the relationship he has with live shows and talk about how he prepares for them.

In the video, Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba reveals how he gets ready for a live show. One thing he isn’t a fan of is soundcheck.

“I really, really don’t like soundcheck. I like to have the whole experience onstage be only the show,” Carrabba says. “I’m not looking for technical perfection. It’s more about finding a relationship with the room. How am I going to connect all the way over there, or all the way over there?”

Carrabba spends a lot of time thinking about how he’s going to take the stage. In the video, you can see the singer-songwriter going around backstage and checking that everything is up to standards.

Even though he spends so much time preparing for the show, Carrabba admits to getting nervous. He especially gets nervous in the hour leading up to the performance.

“I’m a nervous wreck,” Carrabba says. “I’ve been a nervous wreck since my first show, and the first one that I’m not a nervous wreck before will probably be the one where I say ‘Well, I guess that’s my last show.’”
