DFL share video for title track from their upcoming 'YRUDFL' EP—watch

Hardcore group DFL (aka Dead Fucking Last) have released a video for “YRUDFL.” Their first in almost two decades, the visual is premiering exclusively with Alternative Press.

The video drops ahead of their upcoming YRUDFL EP, set for release this Friday via Say-10 Records and SBÄM Records.

Coming in at just under two minutes, “YRUDFL” shows off the band’s ability to harness the snappiness of old-school hardcore punk. Similarly, the video utilizes a fish-eye perspective and stylistic shots to emphasize the gritty, hardcore feel of the song.

“YRUDFL” was initially released earlier this year, making it the first new music from DFL in 24 years. Formed in 1991 by vocalist Tom Paul Davis (aka Crazy Tom), guitarist/vocalist Monty Messex and bassist Ad-Rock and drummer Mike D of the Beastie Boys, the band released three albums before their 1997 breakup. Their debut album, My Crazy Life, dropped in 1993, followed by Proud To Be in 1995 and Grateful… in 1997.

More recently, Messex and Crazy Tom reformed DFL in 2013, later recruiting two new members: drummer Adam Gardner and bassist Edgar Jaramillo.

In a May interview with Idioteq, Messex spoke about the band’s history and development.

“For some reason, we’ve had a revolving line-up of bass players and drummers,” Messex says. “Not sure why, but I’m stoked to have worked with some amazing musicians over the years. That said, it’s a lot of work teaching people the set. Our songs are short and may seem simple, but playing them right is fucking hard. The guys we’re playing with now are great. Edgar was in Union 13 and Adam was in Narcoleptic Youth. Both dudes are excellent musicians and super nice dudes to boot.”

Messex also spoke about the band’s process and the development of their new project.

“Tom and I have been core members since the beginning of DFL,” Messex continues. “In terms of songwriting, Tom pretty much writes the lyrics and I write the music. Sometimes, I’ll come up with a chorus, and Tom will handle the verses. That’s how we’ve written most DFL songs, including on our new EP YRUDFL that’s due out on SBAM and Say-10 this summer. Greg Hetson has been a friend since were kids and it was great having him produce it.”

Now, DFL are gearing up for the release of their new EP, YRUDFL, this week by sharing the visual for its title track. You can check out the video for “YRUDFL” below, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
