Photo Journal: Behind Anthony Green's Macbeth shoot

When AP contributing photographer RYAN RUSSELL told us that he was shooting Anthony Green of Circa Survive, Tegan And Sara, Hunter Burgan of AFI and Frank Iero of My Chemical Romance/Leathermouth for Macbeth's 2010 catalog, we asked if he could slide us a couple of the pics real stealthy-like. Since Russell is a classically trained ninja, he had no trouble sending us these shots, all based around an art concept depicting the deconstruction of a city. Macbeth will be adding a lot of post-production magic to these, but we're letting you see them as Russell took them, complete with the stories behind each shoot.

"Anthony is always super easy to work with, so we simply loaded up in my car and drove downtown from the Masquerade in Atlanta. He brought a harmonica with him and just started playing. It really had nothing to do with the shoot, but the more I watched him play, it just looked cool as shit and I knew it would look good in the ad. He was playing super loud in the streets and, no lie, like 30 seconds after I starting taking photographs, we heard a couple gunshots that sounded like they came from only a couple blocks away. It was hilarious. When we got back to the venue, we noticed a burned out building a block down with an old couch inside. There were a few people living amongst the rubble, but they didn't seem to mind us shooting there, and they even enjoyed the company for a few minutes. They asked for, and received, a few bucks for keeping 'lookout' for us." —Ryan Russell
