7. Jay Z – “Holy Grail” feat. Justin Timberlake

Jay Z and Justin Timberlake may not listen to pop punk or ever stepped foot in a Hot Topic (that we know of). However, they obviously know the grunge classics. Jay Z’s “Holy Grail” uses an iconic sample of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” which all punk-rock fans will forever know and love.

8. Lil Peep – “Driveway”

The late emo rapper Lil Peep was known for sampling many artists in our scene including Underoath, Pierce The Veil, Modern Baseball and more. “Driveway” opens with a sample of the opening riff of Real Friends’ “I’ve Given Up On You,” and we will never stop loving either track.

9. Macklemore – “Life Is Cinema”

Everyone gets lit when they hear the lyrics “I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier,” including Macklemore. The rapper sampled the Killers’ track in his song “Life Is Cinema,” and it needs to be appreciated.

10. M.I.A. – “Paper Planes”

M.I.A. created one of the catchiest songs in 2007, and it actually stems from a classic-punk hit. The sample of the Clash’s track “Straight To Hell” is part of what makes the song so recognizable, so these punk trailblazers are basically eternal.

11. Machine Gun Kelly — “Swing Life Away”

Machine Gun Kelly is undoubtedly in our scene, so it’s no surprise that he did his own rendition of the Rise Against track “Swing Life Away.” MGK added his own verses and Sleeping With Sirens’ Kellin Quinn even did guest vocals on the track.
