Ice Nine Kills recruit Reel Big Fish for ‘It’-inspired live performance—watch

Ice Nine Kills were recently joined onstage by Reel Big Fish for their live performance of “IT Is The End,” and AP is premiering the official live video of the epic collaboration.

The performance took place at a sold-out show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, playing the It-inspired track from their 2018 album, The Silver Scream. The original song features members from Less Than Jake and Fenix TX as a tribute to frontman Spencer Charnas’ love for ska.

“Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve been completely immersed in the punk-ska scene,” Charnas says. “Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake have always been two of my favorites of the genre. To have Buddy [Schaub] and JR [Wasilewski] from Less Than Jake perform the horns on the album and then to get Matt [Appleton] and Johnny [Christianson] from Reel Big Fish to join us onstage live were two truly special experiences.”

Charnas also goes on to elaborate how the track pays homage to the Ice Nine Kills’ musical roots.

“This is one of my favorite tracks we’ve ever recorded because ‘IT’ takes two genres that are almost diametrically opposed—metal and ska—and puts them together in a really unexpected way,” Charnas explains. “It also pays tribute to the fact that Ice Nine was originally a ska band, and although we are a heavier band today, I still wear that influence on my bloody sleeves.”

The band recently celebrated their first Top 10 song on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart with their hit single, “A Grave Mistake.” They’ll continue to tour the U.S. until they hit Orlando, Florida, for a special “revenge” show aimed toward Disney for banning them from playing at the Orlando House of Blues.
