Juliet Simms releases "Hallelujah" cover for holidays (exclusive)

Juliet Simms is releasing a cover of Leonard Cohen's “Hallelujah” for the holiday season, and AP has your exclusive first listen.

Simms says she has been in love with the haunting song since she was a child.

“The somber lyrics to the beautifully sad melody captivated me within seconds of first hearing it,” she shares. “As someone who writes mainly of heart break and the inner demon struggle we're all constantly all battling; I had a lot to relate to when it came to this love gone stale, biblical referencing song.”

Though she is in a good place mentally and with her own love life, she says she still has a strong connection to the song.

“This song still brings out the moments of sorrow I've experienced and relatable feelings we've all had when a love is dying,” Simms says. “Hoping with my version I can help any heart out there whether it be broken, cracked, warm, cold or unscathed.”

The song goes on sale Friday.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.
