Remember when Justin Bieber opened for All Time Low?

Way before winning Grammys, selling out stadiums and getting banned from countries, Justin Bieber was an opening act for All Time Low — seriously.

MTVU (MTV’s college network) brought fan-faves to Six Flags theme parks across the United States for an epic concert to kick off and celebrate the Video Music Awards. In 2009, the MTVU Video Music Awards Tour stopped at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, with a loaded lineup featuring pop-rock bands All Time Low and the White Tie Affair, two up-and-coming Island Records-based artists named Kristinia DeBarge and Jessie James, and Justin Bieber, a new, relatively unknown, guitar-playing teen discovered via YouTube.

At the time of the tour, All Time Low had just dropped their third studio album, Nothing Personal. Their massive crowds aggressively sang along, and crowdsurfed to, hits like “Dear Maria, Count Me In” and “Weightless.” Meanwhile their opening act, a young, floppy-haired Biebs donning brightly colored American Apparel zip-up sweatshirts throughout the tour, was just getting Top 40 traction with his first single “One Time” from his yet-to-be-released debut EP My World, drawing a younger demo of pop fans to the tour.

As you can hear in the video below, crowds were quick to catch Bieber fever.

And right after his set, All Time Low took the stage to slay the fully-charged crowd, as they do.

ATL member Jack Barakat has reminisced about this monumental event…

…and even shared a photo of the Biebs showing the band some love by wearing an All Time Low T-shirt during one of his pre-show soundcheck parties a few months after the MTVU VMA Tour.

While there are no signs of an ATL x JB tour or collaboration happening in the future, we can look back on this mildly confusing, but seriously awesome #TBT tour and hope that maybe someday they will reunite.
