'Riverdale' Season 3: Here's everything we know so far
Season 3 of Riverdale is quickly approaching, and if you’re anything like us, you’ve been scouring the internet trying to find any information about the show’s upcoming season.

Details of the show’s third season have been pretty scarce, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some information. Between fan speculation and the previously confirmed details of season 3, here’s everything that we know so far.
First and foremost, we know that the show is starting production this Friday, July 6 (!!)
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Riverdale‘s showrunner, recently posted a picture of star KJ Apa, with his signature Archie Andrews’ red hair wearing a boxing uniform, with the caption:

We also have an idea of the show’s theme
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Camila Mendes shared that the show’s last season set it up for a “superheroes versus villains” plot for its new season, saying:
“I think now they’ve set up a really great like superheroes versus villains story,” Mendes said. “Now we really know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are, so I think season 3 might have a nice comic book feel to it.”
This possible plot definitely makes sense, as the entirety of season 2 seemed to focus on finding out the identity Black Hood, who is a villain if we’ve ever seen one.

What’s more?
Aguirre-Sacasa teased the show’s theme back in May with the Hollywood Reporter, where he shared that fans should “absolutely” expect something new from the show.
“In season one, we did a murder mystery, and in season two, we did a serial killer in a small town and The Godfather in a small town. Season three will have a high genre element like that.”
We also know the show’s third season will deal with everything that happened in the season two final…and it’s a lot.
In an interview with TV Line back in April, stars KJ Apa and Cole Sprouse, who play Archie Andrews and Jughead Jones, teased that the third season is set to focus on the “tragedy” in the season two final.
Of the new season, Apa shared: “It’s a tragedy, really, what happens. I think the last episode, if I were to describe it in one way, it would be tragic — for one person in particular in the show, but for everyone, ultimately.”
Sprouse then added: “Jughead’s made a lot of enemies.”
Mendes also chimed in on her thoughts of the third season during the interview, saying: “It’s the lead-up from everything that’s been happening between Archie and Hiram, their relationship… I think we’re going to be worried about Archie’s fate.”
We know what season 3’s first episode will be
We also know what to expect in the show’s first episode, and we’re stressed.
Back in June, Aguirre-Sacasa posted a comic strip to his Twitter of Archie in court (since, spoiler, he got arrested in the show’s season two final.) He also shared that the first episode of the new season will be called “Chapter 36: Labor Day.”

And the characters, well, we’ll see some developments
The Riverdale gang may be pretty open on social media, but unfortunately, that’s not the same for sharing details of the show. While details are slim, that doesn’t mean the show’s stars hasn’t teased some details.
In a new interview, Lili Reinhart, Riverdale‘s Betty Cooper, explained that she thinks her character needs a much-deserved break.
As previously reported, Reinhart doesn’t know much about her character’s fate in the new season, but she does have some ideas of where she wants to see Betty, including a closer look at her friendship with Veronica, Cott and Kevin.
While she’s not sure if that will actually happen, her and Aguirre-Sacasa do have the same goal for Betty this season: see her happier.
“In the season finale, when you saw Betty and Jughead in bed together, she’s smiling when he says, “Will you be my serpent queen?” [Aguirre-Sacasa] told me, ‘When I watched that scene and I saw Betty smile, it made me want more of that,” she explains.
“I think the girl deserves a break.”
We agree.
Then, in a series of recent interviews, stars Madelaine Petsch and Ashleigh Murray, who play Cheryl Blossom and Josie McCoy, gave some insight on what fans will be seeing from their characters in the upcoming season.
Petsch shared in a recent interview with MTV that Toni and Cheryl shippers can expect a lot more kisses from the pair, but that was the extent of her spoilers.
Then, in her interview, Murray teased how the series will develop, sharing that the show is “ever-evolving” and it’s hard to tell what’s next for their characters.
“You know, our show is ever-evolving. So sometimes, we have these really great ideas and really great plans that don’t always come to fruition, because maybe something else might come up that works better,” Murray said. “We’re very, very lucky. Roberto is so open to conversations about what we’d like to see for our characters, which is very rare.”
She also teased that a Josie And The Pussycats reunion wasn’t completely far-fetched.
New characters will be introduced this coming season
Per Seventeen Magazine, two new characters will officially be heading to the town of Riverdale: Evelyn Evernever and Edgar Evernever. The casting call for the characters read as follows: (per That Hashtag Show)
Evelyn is described as “otherworldly, seemingly omnipresent, and a bit odd. She’s eager to befriend Betty and is surprisingly insightful for her age, but maybe hiding dark secrets about herself. ”
Edgar is described as “a new-age health “guru” who has helped Alice get her life together after the events of Season Two. He’s attractive, in a neighborly way, and charismatic—a wise, comforting presence.”
Oh, not to mention that Edgar is apparently a cult leader?!
We also recently found out that a Pretty Little Liars star might be joining the cast. That’s right, actor Holly Marie Combs, who played Lucy Hale’s character’s mother on PLR, may be visiting the town of Riverdale.
It was reported that some fans noticed some Riverdale-inspired activity on Combs’ Twitter, including a tweet that hints at Jughead’s mom making an appearance. Fans also saw that the actor has been liking tweets that deem her perfect person for the role.
Coincidence? We don’t think so.
When is it coming back?
The CW recently dropped the premiere dates of all of our fave shows, and we were beyond excited to see Riverdale is returning to the network this October!
The first episode of Season 3 will air on Wednesday, October 10 at 8 p.m. and we’re already counting down the days until the show comes back.
