What we think the 'Stranger Things' Season 2 episode titles mean

It’s almost time for Stranger Things Season 2 to finally make its way out of the Upside Down, and we couldn’t be more excited. After Season 1 threw us firmly back to the ‘80s and completely hooked us with its sci-fi/thriller, action-packed episodes, Season 2 is going to be just as enthralling.

Recently, the episode titles teaser was released:

And we have some ideas as to what each title may mean…

Chapter 1 – “Dragon’s Lair”

Kicking straight in with a throwback to a 1983 video game. “Dragon’s Lair” features a character called Dirk The Daring attempting to rescue Princess Daphne from the evil dragon Singe’s lair. That’s a pretty promising look at Will and co.’s attempt to get to the Upside Down to rescue Eleven.

Chapter 2 – “Trick or Treat, Freak”

It’s clear a lot of this season might center around October/Halloween time, especially given the teaser has the gang in Ghostbusters costumes, but what that holds for the actual plot? Who knows. The Stranger Things team also teased this idea with a tweet, back on Oct. 1.

Chapter 3 – “The Pollywog”

Now, this one is open to interpretation. We all know the kids are big Dungeons & Dragons fans, and it may reference a creature from the game called the bullywug, which inhabits dark, wet spaces (a.k.a. a sewer system, but more on that later). Could these be the slug-like creatures Will threw up at the end of Season 1?

Chapter 4 – “Will The Wise”

Another major Dungeons & Dragons hint, one that may allude to Will being more of a key player than we first thought. With all this world coming to life and the Demogorgon wreaking havoc, maybe there’s more to Will than meets the eye?

Chapter 5 – “Dig Dug”

Here’s another more obvious title, concerning a game that involves the player-eliminating, underground-dwelling monsters. Could this be Will and the gang’s fight against the Pollywog? Could it be a variation of the Upside Down?

Chapter 6 – “The Spy”

This is the most vague of all the titles for this season: Does it refer to betrayal by someone? Clandestine operations from Dustin? Not much is given away here, but chances are it’ll still be awesome.

Chapters 7, 8 and 9 – Unknown

Closely under-wraps, the fact these chapters have  not been unveiled means they probably fall under spoiler territory. A year ago, the show released a series of teaser episode titles, with only one coming to fruition (“The Pollywog”); so the original titles for these pivotal episodes probably mean nothing, but here they are anyway: “The Secret Cabin,” “The Brain” and “The Lost Brother.”

What do you think the titles mean?
