Pierce The Veil: Brotherly Shove

Don’t expect to hear about any dust-ups between the two brothers in Pierce The Veil during this year’s Rockstar Taste Of Chaos. There will be no onstage bickering, no backstage arguments nor post-gig punch-ups. After all, these punk-weaned, post-screamo Warped vets have avoided the curse of brotherly led bands like the Kinks and Oasis. Er, right?

“I wouldn’t say we’ve avoided it,” says vocalist/guitarist Vic Fuentes, who along with his brother Mike on drums, played all the instruments on A Flair For The Dramatic, PTV’s mightily melodic yet savagely emotional debut that helped put them on the road with bands like Chiodos and From First To Last. “We definitely get into it once in awhile, just over little things that we’ll argue about. The other guys find it kind of amusing. Nobody else really gets involved. I think we’re the only ones that can talk crap about each other without any consequences. We challenge each other a lot, but since we’re brothers, we know that it’s going to be okay in the end.”

One thing both brothers and their bandmates-bassist/vocalist Jaime Preciado and guitarist Tony Perry-are in agreement about is how buzzed they are to be part of this year’s Chaos. The band were so thrilled to receive the invitation from Kevin Lyman & Co., they postponed recording their new album. “This is the most stoked we’ve ever been for any tour we’ve ever gotten,” Vic reports. “We look up to the guys we’ll be touring with, and we’re friends with a lot of them from Warped. Getting a chance to tour with Thursday is amazing for us. They are definitely a band we looked up to growing up. It will be awesome.”

Aside from making friends and fans and getting offered ToC, the quartet’s lengthy stint on the road in support of their first album has created other benefits, which Vic hopes will be evident on album number two.

“Our new album will be entirely inspired by our fans and by touring,” he says. “We’ve been really inspired by the people at our shows, seeing what they react to, what they like to move to and sing along to. We want to make an album that’s really fun to play live for both the crowd and for us. That’s the plan: To write something really energetic and fun that will make for a year or two of really amazing touring and great shows.”
