Emo rapper Teddy drops two otherworldly songs—listen

Emo rapper Teddy is premiering two brand-new singles exclusively with AP.

Some might recognize Teddy from his previous collaborations with Lil Peep on “Dreams & Nightmares.” Teddy has also collaborated with ILoveMakonnen and Rich The Kid over the past few years.

Most recently, Teddy dropped a 4-track EP Castle With No Light, produced by longtime Peep collaborator Smokeasac.

Now, the rapper is unleashing two new tracks that seamlessly blend rock and rap together. “Broken Hearts” and “Taste Me” both feature atmospheric vibes that will send chills down your spine.

“Broken Hearts” features a guitar acting as a ticking clock or a beating heart. It keeps time to the intimate vocals and counteracts the softer melodies in the song.

“‘Broken Hearts’ is one of my favorite songs that I have made,” Teddy says. “I made this song in Sweden with my uncle, and as soon as I heard him play the guitar line, I knew that the song was going to hold a special place in my heart forever.”

Teddy’s uncle Christian Määttä, is a member of Swedish punk band Bombshell Rocks. Määttä did the guitar work on “Broken Hearts,” contributing to its rock vibe.

While “Broken Hearts” features a rhythmic guitar at its center, “Taste Me” is more slowed down. It’s chilling and eerie, with indirect lyrics compiling together to describe the bigger mood of the song. The meaning is up to interpretation, but the otherworldly feeling in the song sticks with you nonetheless.

“‘Taste Me’ was another track that I made when I was in Sweden,” Teddy says. “It was the last song I made before my flight. I felt like I was in another world when I was recording it and somehow was able to capture that world and bring it to this one when I left the studio.”

This is just the start of things to come for Teddy. Despite dropping music as recently as late September, Teddy doesn’t plan on slowing down.

“My future plans are just to keep creating and sharing my art with everyone,” Teddy says. “I am currently in the studio working on new tracks all the time and hope to be able to show the world more about where I come from and who I am.”

Both tracks hit streaming services Nov. 9. You can presave “Broken Hearts” and “Taste Me” on Spotify now.
