The Aggrolites deliver reggae-ska grooves out of a box truck—watch

Talk about a cause for celebration: AP is premiering the new video from L.A.’s long-running reggae-ska unit, the Aggrolites. “Pound For Pound” serves as the lead-off song from their latest album, Reggae Now!, released by Pirates Press Records. The band’s organ-based grooves and steady-rockin’ beats are the kind of thing that defines everything great under the summer sun.

The video—directed by Josh Roush—finds the band pulling into a parking lot in a truck and setting up some sound system gear to deliver “Pound For Pound.” Before the end of the song, the ’lites are playing to a sweet crowd of cool rockin’ fans. And in the world we’re living in now, anything that makes us smile and sway can never be bad.

Frontman Jesse Wagner reveals his lively time on the set. “It was a great experience,” he says. “It was the first time we ever performed inside of a box truck, which was fun and unique. We did multiple takes of the song, and I had to stage dive off the truck into the crowd for one of the shots toward the end of the video. I may or may not have been feeling it the next day!

“The band did great,” he continues. “Right on the first take and opening snare fill at the intro, I fell off the truck right into the street. Pretty embarrassing moment, but I got right back up, and we kept going. There’s a bloopers cut of that somewhere on the internet. So thankful for Josh, Liv [Roush, producer] and the crew for making it happen and big, massive respect to all the fans that came out and supported.”

We’re hoping that when Wagner and the band hit the road as direct support to the Long Beach Dub Allstars, they find themselves loping on terra firma. Catch them on tour this summer, and get some reggae right now, right here.
