UPSAHL 2018

UPSAHL uses “Drugs” to highlight clout-chasing, name-dropping—listen

Up-and-coming indie-pop queen UPSAHL is joining forces with AP to premiere the new lyric video for her latest single “Drugs” off her upcoming debut EP.

The song’s true message is far from what one would think from just reading the title, stressing the monotony of modern-day parties through the young singer’s eyes.

UPSAHL says the track is an ode to the people she’s met at parties who constantly brag through name-dropping and a superiority complex.

“This song, at surface level, sounds like it’s about drugs, but to me, it’s actually quite the opposite,” she explains. “It’s way more than that. The song is about fake people who feel the need to prove themselves to everyone by flexing on their new car, Gucci belt or who they know.

“We used the lyrics ‘I just came here for the drugs’ to symbolize not wanting to deal with the clout people think is so important nowadays. I actually find myself singing it in my head anytime I’m talking to said people at a party now. The word ‘drugs’ is just a metaphor for genuine people.”

“Drugs” follows another recent single and music video for “The Other Team,” which looks to set the stage for her highly anticipated EP dropping March 1.
