Wargasm have released a music video for their track “Salma Hayek.” The new visual is premiering on Alternative Press for an exclusive first watch.

The new song comes ahead of the band’s debut headline tour, War On The Road. They will follow the run with a winter tour in support of Creeper.

“Salma Hayek” is a classic track from the duo, composed of Milkie Way and Sam Matlock. The song showcases the band’s ability to seamlessly connect different musical styles. The dynamic track evolves, quickly shifting gears from grinding guitar riffs to breakdowns and driving electronics. The new video was directed by Olli Appleyard (Static Dress). Appleyard’s minimalist approach allows for the nuances of the song to stand front and center.

According to the band, the new video pays homage to Quentin Tarantino’s classic 1996 film From Dusk Till Dawn.

“Coming in with all the subtlety of a pack of wild dogs, Wargasm are proud to release their latest video and ode to Tarantino, Salma Hayek, loud noises, darkness and sex,” the band say. “Directed by Olli Appleyard and heavily inspired by the cult classic From Dusk Till Dawn, this is a new step in the visual journey of Wargasm.”

The comment helps underscore the song’s connection to Hayek, who appeared in the film as Santánico Pandemonium. The new video pays homage to Hayek’s classic snake dance in the film’s iconic bar.

The song and visual are in keeping with the vision that forms something of Wargasm’s mantra. In a 2020 interview with Upset, the band emphasized the old-school sensibility that leads them to revisit the roots of hard rock and classic cinema.

“We don’t think that old music like that is inherently better. We just think that people are being a bit lazy now,” Matlock says. “There was an energy back then, a certain sense of, ‘Fuck it, let’s just have a bit of fun.’”

“I respect and love a lot of the new bands that have come out in the last few years,” Way adds. “But goddamn, some of it is just so fucking boring. Everyone takes themselves so seriously in the rock scene, and I just want someone to not have a stick up their ass about it.”

“Salma Hayek” perfectly reflects the band’s vision. It elides great old-school hard rock and industrial music with a tribute to From Dusk Till Dawn that is as playful as it is fitting.
