Watch Foo Fighters cover Queen under a fake band name

Foo Fighters donned coyly covert garage-band monikers to play some covers and rarities at a pre-Cal Jam pop-up show over the weekend, including covering a Queen tune with the classic group’s own drummer, Roger Taylor. Watch below!

Utilizing the fake bands names Chevy Metal and the Holy Shits, Dave Grohl and co. performed both a set of covers and a set of Foos tunes at the surprise gig in the parking lot of the Hollywood Palladium on Sunday, as reported by Variety.

Chevy Metal, fronted by longtime Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, opened the one-off gig with a fierce set of rock covers, including shots at Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak,” the Knack’s “My Sharona” and the Rolling Stones‘ “Miss You.”

The Hawkins-fied opening “act” closed their set with a take on Queen and David Bowie‘s undeniable “Under Pressure,” which featured a guest appearance from the aforementioned Queen percussionist himself, Mr. Roger Taylor.

And once the Foos — ahem, the Holy Shits — took the stage, they played a grip of well-known Foo Fighter tunes plus some rarely-heard album tracks such as “Gimme Stitches.” Check out some video footage from both sets down yonder.

Cal Jam 2018 goes down Saturday, Oct. 6, at Glen Helen Regional Park & Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, California; the Foos headline alongside Iggy Pop, Tenacious D and Garbage. Get tickets and festival information here.
