Foo Fighters reveal new drummer for the first time after Taylor Hawkins' death
During an exclusive Veeps livestream Preparing Music for Concerts, Foo Fighters revealed their new drummer, friend and session musician Josh Freese.
The news comes ahead of the band’s massive tour which is set to kick off May 24 in New Hampshire and will be the first without Taylor Hawkins, who died last March.

Since his tragic death, the band has remained tight-lipped about who would be recruited as the band’s new drummer. The band riffed on the secrecy surrounding the identity of the new drummer at the beginning of the live stream while they were prepping in the rehearsal room. Three famous rock drummers — Red Hot Chili Peppers Chad Smith, Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, and Tool’s Danny Carey — all knocked on the door with witty lines like “Hey I got the PF Changs!” or “I groomed your poodles for you,” to which the band replied to with version of “We’ll be right there!”
But when a voice off-camera exclaims “Um… excuse me?…Can we play a song or something?!” Freese is revealed to be behind the drum kit. It was the perfect segue into the band playing new songs from their forthcoming album But Here We Are (due June 2).
Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts is streaming exclusively via Live Nation’s Veeps platform and features “rock & roll (including debut performances of songs from ‘But Here We Are’), exclusive behind the scenes footage, and a few surprises.”
