Four Year Strong remind you to “Learn To Love The Lie” in new video

Today Four Year Strong unveiled the new video for “Learn To Love The Lie,” the third track from their hotly anticipated fifth album, Brain Pain. The video features FYS rocking out in what looks like a motorcycle repair garage, while a couple “in love” achieve new levels of apathy toward each other. Happy Valentines Day, everyone!

“‘Learn To Love The Lie’ was one of the first songs we wrote for Brain Pain,” vocalist/guitarist Dan O’Connor says. “It’s about being stuck in a mutually miserable relationship, but you’re both too much of a coward to leave. If you’re going to lie to yourself about being happy, you might as well learn to love it. Let’s not kid ourselves…We’ve all been there.”

Four Year Strong–guitarists O’Connor and Alan Day, bassist Joe Weiss and drummer Jake Massucco–began work on conceptualizing and writing the new album two years ago. Admittedly, the time lag might seem like an eternity. But you need to have input to create output and FYS would release no rock before its time. Producer Will Putney (who was an engineer on 2010’s Enemy Of The World) was enlisted to sit in the producer’s chair this time. According to O’Connor, the time away and the right producer paid off.

“We didn’t want to set a strict deadline for this album because we wanted to be sure we took the time to write the best songs possible,” he says. “In the past, our writing and recording was so dependent on getting something out in time to go on tour. This time we really had the opportunity to take our time and work through these ideas.”

“We were really emotionally invested in this music so we wanted to go with someone who we knew would care about it as much as we did,” Day says. “And Will was that guy.”

The new video follows the title track and “Talking In Circles” released in mid-January. All three songs can be found on Brain Pain, which will be issued by Pure Noise Records Feb. 28. You can pre-order it today here if there aren’t any good record stores near you. Check out “Learn To Love The Lie” below.

And for the first time ever, FYS are hitting the road with fellow punk lifers Silverstein this spring. The new issue of AltPress has Day and Silverstein frontman Shane Told interviewing each other and wondering why it’s taken them so long to tour together. You can order that right here and check out their upcoming shows below with tickets here.
