Friday Fives: Vinnie Caruana of I Am The Avalanche picks his favorite bands to tour with

We here at AP know you internet denizens love lists. And we know that folks in bands have other interests beyond cranking out decibels. So here’s Friday Fives, a column that solicits a list of five subjects from a number of various rockers.

This week, I AM THE AVALANCHE/THE MOVIELIFE vocalist Vinnie Caruana picks his favorite bands to tour with.

These are just five bands; the list goes on and on. Much love to all of my touring family.

1. Rx Bandits
I’ve done many tours in different projects with these angels of the West Coast. They are by far the most talented musicians of the bunch, and quality conversation is always to be had. We also share a passion for quality when it comes to food and drink.

2. Four Year Strong
Four quality bros from Massachusetts who are always down to hang and are always a blast to watch live. Dan [O'Connor, guitarist/vocalist] and Alan [Day, guitarist/vocalist] are straight-edge warriors who give great hugs and grow nice manes of facial hair. Jake [Massucco, drummer] and Joe [Weiss, bassist] seem to not sleep and are always down to imbibe and/or burn one.

3. Bayside
It always feels more like home when out on the road with my New York brethren. We spend a lot of time on their bus, which also doubles as a Queens/Long Island embassy. Plus, their crew includes Floyd The Barber, who is always crucial for fresh cuts and hangs.

4. Fireworks
We got down super-hard with these crazy bros in Australia last year. When we first met years ago, Brett [Jones] ate a piece of Aggro’s [guitarist Brandon Swanson] birthday cake before we had a chance to sing for him. He replaced the cake and icing with bread and mayo when he saw we were bummed on that. Truth is, that’s the kind of thing that makes them so special.

5. Transit
I Am The Avalanche have shared many a dressing room with these young lads from Massachusetts. I kind of feel like their uncle due to the age difference, but the dynamic works. I help them with their math homework and read them stories before they go to sleep. Most of them are cheeba-hawks as well.

Check out Vinnie Caruana’s new solo EP, City By The Sea when it comes out Feb. 5. You can also catch him on the Acoustic Basement tour that runs Feb. 1-23.
